Traditional Paper animation

I am extremely interested in making hand drawn paper animations. Does anyone know what tools are required for it? And how exactly to get rid of the background paper, because I assume that will be a problem. And can backgrounds themselves be drawn on paper for an animation? I have looked at all the toon boom website stuff regarding it and alls it says is that it can do it with a scanner by vectorizing.

Here is an excellent tutorial by D.Nethery,
how to prepare your hand-drawn images…

Thank you so much. This helped me out to an unbelievable scale. lol. I only need a scanner and I can get started. I have a pc, so no photoshop so I will probably just have to deal with the blockiness for now. Thanks so much again.
