Switching from Adobe Animate to Toon Boom mid-production

Hi, I was wondering if anyone has any experience with switching from flash to Harmony between seasons for a network series. Where is it possible to maximize the reuse of assets and maybe even animation that has been already created in Flash and migrate that over to Harmony? Can flash vector assets be imported into Harmony for rigging? Or is all this a complete do-over? Any other obstacles you might have encountered? Thanks!

Hello Stephen!

A lot of the questions you are asking are dependent on how complex your production currently is, which will also determine how easy or difficult it will be for you to migrate everything from Animate to Harmony.

However, here are a few things that might help you:

As of Harmony 17.0.2 (which comes out today!), we have added additional support for importing from Animate, all the way up to the 2020 version.

These additions include:

  • Automatic rig clean-up
  • Support for synchronized layers
  • Enhancements to the Swfimport utility

You can find the full Harmony 17.0.2 notes here: https://docs.toonboom.com/help/harmony-17/premium/release-notes/harmony/harmony-17-0-2-release-notes.html

If the above does not help you much and you would like to pay for some additional expert help from our Toon Boom Professional Services team, please do not hesitate to reach out to me at community@toonboom.com and I can put you in touch with our internal team that can coordinate that with you.

Another great place where people can help answer this for you is the Official Toon Boom Discord server, which you can join here: https://discord.gg/syAjy4H

I know quite a few people have migrated much the same way you have, and would be able to offer tips and tricks!

Thankyou! That sounds promising.
