Confused…
Start with a simple animation I change one drawing, then I start a second, then a 3rd. When I want to go back and use a previous one it draws an arrow from when last referenced to the start. The problem is it also displays in those frames. I want its display to begin again where it is next referenced, not between those times…???

I am not entirely sure to understand what you are seeing. If you are looking at the timeline are all the frames in one single big rectangle box or do each frame have their own rectangle.
It may simply be that you have extended the exposure of the first drawing for a couple of frames over actually duplicating the drawings to be different entities in the software. If you could show us an image of what you are getting and what you are looking for it may help us define what is going on.
