Split transformation key information & graphic drawing information to two leves?

Hello,

when animating a cut out character I create transformation keys to move the body parts and than I switch between several drawings of one body part (for example different hands or mouths).

Until now there’s no problem.

But when it comes to fine tuning it happens that I want to slide a drawing one or two frames to the left or to the right. This works fine too.
But, when the drawing I would like to slide is on the same frame as a transformation key I can’t slide it separately from the transformation key.

So, I would like to know if in Animate there is a way to split in the time line the transformation key information and the graphic drawing information to two different leves?
(The way it is if when I use a peg to transform the drawing)

You’ll say that I could slide my drawings in the X-Sheet. But this would mean a little slow down of work flow. Otherwise you could advise me to work with symbols. But, the problem remains the same. Or, you could tell me to use the slider to switch from one drawing to another. But what if I want to slide several drawings at the same time?

As the graphic information and the tramsformation information are on the same layer sliding of drawings can become a bit difficult.

Normally I would use create a peg for each element. Like this I would have my visual and local separation between transformation and drawings. But, in Animate this is not very practic because when you select an object in the the animation window you will sellect the drawing itself and not the peg. So I wouls have to select all the elemnts in the time line.

Not very practic isn’t it?

Is there a way to split these information to two levels or is it planned for a future version?

Thanks in advance,

Stefroque

Hi,Not sure if that is what you are looking for but from the Preferences of the software under Camera there is an option that will allow you to not set keyframe on everything when you use the transform tool. This should allow you to isolate your nudge without affecting scale/rotation.Simply make sure “Set keyframes on all functions with the transform tool” is not checked. You may also want to use the Advanced Animation tool for those have separate tools for each task.Other then that you could always user symbols and apply transformation on the master symbols first then if you need go in the symbol and apply another transformation to the layer inside.Hopefully this will help you out.Best regards,Ugo

What you can do is drag and drop the cell that you want to move but before letting go of the button press Alt. This will open the Drag and drop Paste special window ehere in the Advance tab you can uncheck the “peg” functions that you don’t want.If you want to move just the keyframe information without the cell then go back there and check the Do Nothing in the Drawing area. This not affect the timing of your cells, only the imbedded peg only.Be aware that changing the drag and drop paste special option will keep them as you set them until you change them back. If you restart Animate it will also come back to the default sttings.Be also aware that there are two sets of options for Drag and Drop Paste Special and copy/Paste Special. Even if the windows look the same you can set them differently. You could also use the Drawing substituions to change the timing of the cells. Of course if you want to drag the timing over the first method is the best.

Mmmhh, thank you both very much for your answers. But, I would really like to find an easy and quick solution without having to check and uncheck options in hidden preferences windows…For that I just describe the problem again and than I’ll show what I am looking for.I would like to slide the red cell to the left side. The problem is that it shares its frame with a modification key which I want to stay where it is.[url=http://img113.imageshack.us/my.php?image=59801630ns6.jpg]http://img113.imageshack.us/img113/6775/59801630ns6.jpgAnd when I slide the cell the modification key follows.[url=http://img186.imageshack.us/my.php?image=61072392xh9.jpg]http://img186.imageshack.us/img186/9844/61072392xh9.jpgSo I am wondering if there is a view where the grafic and the transformation information are splitted to two layers.Something that would look like this:[url=http://img136.imageshack.us/my.php?image=35906528wx0.jpg]http://img136.imageshack.us/img136/1921/35906528wx0.jpg...where I can easily choose if I want to slide the cell or the transformation key.http://img510.imageshack.us/img510/4530/59534910ym5.jpgDoes this exist or would this be feasable for a future version?

Hello again,I just want to explain again why I am asking all that and why I don’t simply add a peg to the drawing to separate transformation keys and cells. When animating the cut out charater I select the members that I want to move directly in the camera window. The problem is, that:when doing this, the drawing will be selected. NOT THE PEG! Although it is higher in the hierarchy! And when I want to animate the pegs I would have to select each peg in the timeline. Which is not practical at all.

You can use B to go up one level to the Peg but it doesn’t work on multiple layers at the same time obiously. In the next version there will be a way to select the pegs only so for you that would be practical.

Hey, great! Thanks.I am looking forward for it!!! :DCheers,Stef
