Does anyone know if it is possible to sell a licence key? I bought it on a whim but never seem to have the time to use the software.

According to the license agreement a license cannot be transferred from one person to another. Therefore the software is still owned by you regardless of who is using it.
The only way you could transfer without any issue would be by either buying the software with a gift receipt or by not registering the key before giving it to someone else.
