How do you draw shape without a stroke?

Hi all,
I am trying to create a character by manipulating shapes but I do not want a stroke around the different shapes. I seem to have to create a shape (ie rectangle), then fill it with the desired color, and then delete the stroke from it. Is there a way to set things up so I can create a shape without a stroke and with the fill color I want prior to using the rectangle/square tool?

Either use the same colour for line and fill, then flatten the drawing…
