How do I bring back the Render 3D Model dialog box again?

When I drag a 3d model from my library to a scene a Render 3D Model dialog box should appear (see pic). It no longer does this.

How do I bring it back?

(This is costing me work time… very frustrating).

Things that DON’T work:

  • Resetting preferences to default.

  • Preferences - General - Unchecking enable 3d functionalities, restarting, rechecking it, restarting.

  • Repairing (i.e. reinstalling) Storyboard Pro under Settings - Programs

To the Developers of ToonBoom Storyboard Pro: UI matters.

UI matters, and here’s why… In the process of trying to restore a simple feature, but failing because the UI didn’t make it obvious, intuitive, or helpful it has now cost me work hours, all my preferences, and my workspace settings. IF I manage to find a way to restore this dialog box, I’ll now also need to redo ALL my shortcut keys, and my workspace. The work hours I’ve lost I can’t get back. UI really does matter. Please give it and us, your customers, the respect it deserves. Your software costs 999 US dollars. We deserve better.

Hi Matbrady1,

I hope this message finds you well.

The ‘Pop up’ will not show when the options ‘Don’t show this message again’ is selected.

However, you can reset your preferences without losing any data, you can rename the current preferences folder’s to ‘_BAK’ so when StoryBoard start again will create default settings.

Folder’s that you need to be renamed:

C:\Users\xxxx\AppData\Roaming\Toon Boom Animation\Toon Boom Storyboard Pro\14200-layouts-xml

C:\Users\xxxx\AppData\Roaming\Toon Boom Animation\Toon Boom Storyboard Pro\full-14200-pref

So you can add _BAK and you will see something like;

C:\Users\xxxx\AppData\Roaming\Toon Boom Animation\Toon Boom Storyboard Pro\14200-layouts-xml_bak

C:\Users\xxxx\AppData\Roaming\Toon Boom Animation\Toon Boom Storyboard Pro\full-14200-pref_bak

Copy the content need from the folders that you rename and replace within the new preferences folders.

That “solution” is by no means obvious, simple or intuitive.

Perhaps send this to the development team as a way of explaining how a little more work in the UI and UX side of things would have a better solution take the form of a checkbox in the actual Preferences page. Something to the effect of: [x] Render 3D Dialog Box appears after import.

That simple UI solution would have saved SO MUCH hassle.

The solution you describe, Edgar, even though it works, is much more of a hassle.

But the person that really needs to know it’s a hassle is somewhere on the development team, and this message needs to reach them.

Edgar, please make that happen.
