Head turn 3D effect

Hello! Somebody can explain to me how to do this kind of effect with the head in Harmony? I don’t know if this is a 3D model of the head or a well done cut-out animation… :~

Thank you!

Ok, nevermind, I found out how they do it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AizepmgmkOY
But it is possible on Harmony? :stuck_out_tongue:

i’ve seen the Motorcity FLAs this post is referring to. they have a high level of pre-production with a lot of re-drawn, swappable parts. i’m sure it has been refined since then. that said, its still just 2D and nothing “fancy” going on. just a lot of good ol’ hard work that certainly be done (easier) in Harmony.

Simple answer Harmony cannot in any way do anything even closely approaching that.
You can use an envelope deformer to change the head shape, and use cutters / masking on the features, to allow some head rotation but all the components of the “head turn” would have to be animated separately.

Anime studio pro can do even more sophisticated head turns than this flash plugin using smart bones and point based geometry animation. I use Anime studio pro in addition to Harmony when i need more complex cut-out character actions.

Probably the only way of doing this in Harmony (without much deformation) is constructing a template for each type of head turn and use it. Anime studio pro looks better for this type of work, certainly. I’m habituated with 3D softwares and it would be so much easier if Harmony used bones in a smarter way. I will try some head templates, since my character is very simple.

Thank you guys!
