Harmony keeps crashing whenever I open up a new scene

Hello! I use Toon Boom Harmony20 Essentials, and I’m able to get as far as the Welcome page, before it crashes whenever I try to actually start or open a Scene.

This pops up whenever I open a project, new or not. Am I doing something wrong?

Try resetting your layouts to default by deleting or renaming the folder when Harmony is closed.

C:\Users\[username]\AppData\Roaming\Toon Boom Animation\Toon Boom Harmony Premium\[version#]-layouts-xml

On Windows, the AppData folder is hidden. To display it in Explorer, in the top menu, open the View pane and check the Hidden Items checkbox.

I just downloaded ToonBoom Harmony Advanced 22 to learn the app. (I’m new to Harmony!) I’m also having a rather similar issue.

I have tried deleting the layout folder as described above. And even the entire Toon Boom Animation Folder. Yet, this solution doesn’t work for me.

My Toon Boom Harmony 22 Advanced is still crashing when creating a new scene. I would like to try the Advanced version simply because of the Bitmap capabilities as described in the version comparison.

I have been using Toom Boom Advanced for over a year and only recently have been getting crashes also while working with it. I’ve set autosave to on so that I have a backup just in case. I am on a mac. Can we have a tech look into this?

Contacting support maybe your best bet and have them look into these issues.

Hi, Dustin_Taylor.
Is your computer a laptop? Try running the ToonBoom software with a separate graphics card driver (GPU).

Nvidia graphics card

AMD graphics card

I fixed my problem by the way. For anyone who is curious about how I fixed my problem: I had two separate versions of Python installed, 3.9 and 3.10. I think Harmony was confused as to what version I was using. I uninstalled Python 3.9 and removed it from my Path in my environment variables. After this, I was able to create a new scene.
