Harmony Essentials - Wacom Cintiq Companion 2 Weird lag

It’s a bit difficult to explain but when I draw a line it doesn’t appear immediately. When I draw and remove the wacom pen from the screen, I don’t see a line. As soon as I touch the screen again to draw the next line the previous line immediately shows up. When I remove and touch again the next line shows up.

Seems to me like some weird redraw problem. I don’t think it’s a ‘normal’ lag. Other software like photoshop runs super fast on the companion and also Toon Boom Studio worked really great as well. And I don’t see any direct lagging.

I tried to enable/disable random options in the preferences that vaguely sounded as if they could help (but I have no idea what I’m doing and nothing helped). I wonder if anyone has any idea about this problem.

If I can’t get it to work nicely I guess I can’t use it on my cintiq which would be really sad…

I hope someone can help. Thanks in advance!

System: Windows 8.1
Wacom Cintiq Companion 2

I can confirm to the community that this problem still exists. I upgraded my Cintiq Companion 2 to Windows 10 and suddenly there was a massive lag in Storyboard Pro 5, between touching pen to the surface and when the marking actually appears on screen. The screen also goes black regularly after each pen-touch. Fortunately, Microsoft gives you a quick and simple way to just revert back to Windows 8.

This is your friend :-)…
Settings > Update & security > Recovery > Go back to Windows 8.1

Have you tried disabling the WinTab drivers in the advanced section of the preferences…

Hello, thanks for your time.

I tried disabling Use Windows Ink and Double Click Distance to off but that didn’t help.

I’m also wondering if you had written something else I should try after the ‘Try this’ because the next sentence starts with ‘also’, implying there was some other thing, maybe a link…?

I’m beginning to think it’s some weird graphic error but updating the driver for the intel iris 5100 didn’t help. Maybe they are just not compatible or something. (Even though Toon Boom Studio worked fine). I wrote a message to support now.

Well the weird lag I’m having is not that it appears a bit later. It appears when I touch the screen the next time. I also noticed it doesn’t only affect the pen, it affects anything I’m doing in the drawing area of harmony. Even if I just move it around, erase something or do something via touch. It just shows the result when I touch it the next time (either hand or pen).

I upgraded my graphics and wacom tablet drivers but that sadly didn’t help. I sent a message to support now. I’ll let you guys know in case I find a solution.
Thanks for trying to help!

  1. Yes, always. In all software. Only the drawing area of harmony essentials seems to hate me. Even Harmony itself seems to work normally, it’s just the drawing area. Which is weird.

  2. Yes, I use it all the time and have a lot of different key configurations XD I also often recalibrate (when changing my screen position for example)
I updated my graphics and tablet drivers but it sadly didn’t help.

  3. I sent them a message, I really hope they can help me. If not I think I’ll move it to my laptop, the trial version worked perfectly on my dell XPS with my wacom intuos 3.

Thanks for your advice.

Hi
I am not a user of this Companion yet but will buy one soon. I have looked after some settings solution and found one. Try this:

Also at this point- check whether the following help/ improve:
Within Wacom tablet Properties:

  • Disable the Use Windows Ink,
  • Slide to OFF the Tip Double Click Distance.

Have you downloaded the Wacom drivers and calibrated that’s what it sounds like to me

Did you ever have near perfect performance from the Cintiq Companion?

Was it previously set up and used successfully in other software before trying Harmony?

This is something you need to work directly on with Toon Boom Support.

This is just the user forum.

I do have the wacom drivers or else I wouldn’t be able to have line pressure, use it in other software and set up shortcut keys etc.
But I’ll check if there is an update for them.

Thanks for your input.

I had the companion 1 last year and never had issues but have had to recalibrate my surface pro 2 a few times when I had the weird lag issue when you draw then the line shows up a mil second later good luck let us know if you fix it.

I had the same issue, and so far the only way around it for me was to remove my monitor and use only the Cintiq. I was really hoping to use both screens, but whenever the other screen is hooked up it becomes impossible to draw properly in TB. Perhaps you have a monitor hooked up that you may now wish to remove?

Check if the automatic light table is active - any transparency effect is hard to calculate and the compnion does not have a great graphic card.

I’ve got the Cintiq Companion2 512 GB, and I don’t have any problem with TB Harmony Premium, no lagging at all when drawing, but with my old Asus Slate B121, Harmony would not even start, it would crash all the time. Cintiq is the best tool for any digital artist, the only problem is the interface of Harmony looks tiny in the Cintiq Companion2 screen, same happens to Adobe Flash cs6, but Photoshop looks normal.

I’m on a Cintiq Companion 2 and was having the same problem with TB Storyboard Pro 5.1…until i found this in: Preferences>Advanced: Delay before drawing vectorized strokes. was set to 1000?? why in the world would you want a lag?! set to 0 and problem fixed for me. hope this helps

I have the same problem with Windows 10 and SBP. I tried it with 4.1 and 4.2. Screen goes black when I touch it and there is a 1.5 sec delay between my pen stroke and seeing the line.

I tried changing the Advanced/Delay settings and that helped the lag quite a bit, but there is still a lag and I still get the black screen when my pen touches it.

This does not happen in any other graphic program, nor did it happen in Windows 8.1.

I’ve been working with Toon Boom on this issue. There is a fast work-around.
Under Edit/Preferences/Advanced:
Turn OFF Full Scene Antialiasing. (Enable: Off)

I stopped getting the black screen and there was no lag in the lines.

The only issue you will have is small aliasing on your smooth vector lines, but they will still export smooth.

OH MY GOODNESS! YOU JUST SAVED ME SO MANY HEADACHES! I AM YELLING WITH JOY!

maybe the reason of windows 10 os , the wacom driver not compatible with win10 . so choose win8 or win7 maybe can solve this issue .

I don’t have a Wacom Cintiq Companion 2 , I currently use a xp-pen artist 15.6 Pro ( https://www.xp-pen.com/goods/show/id/394.html ) Screen Drawing Tablet . it need to connect with a laptop or pc .

I Can only work with it at home . but it works well with photoshop and toonboom program . the stylus support 60 degrees of pen tilt , it’s useful when drawing , I love this affordable pen display monitor .
