Contour Editor: New operations

I just installed the new version of Harmony (10.3) and I see two new operations in the contour editor (at least, I don’t remember being there before):

“Join pencil lines” and “Split pencil lines”

By the name of the operations it’s quite clear what they should do, but I can’t get any result from them. I’ve tryed several things and searched the documentation but nothing about this options.

So, what do they do and how should they be used?

Replying to myself, the split and join operations work well. It was just a matter of doing the selections right.

Anyway, it’d be good if you update the documentation to show this.

i didnt notice that myself, but i’ll take a peek. good looking out.

also of note is the new “reposition drawing” button in the advanced animation toolbar. i played with it for a few min at the end of my day last week, but wasn’t quite grasping what it did. it also does not have any updated documentation on it. any thoughts?

I noticed that button too and didn’t get any results either :frowning:

so im playing with this now and I cant seem to figure out what the proper selection is? i tried selecting two end points and hitting the “join pencil lines”, then i tried selecting the whole of the two lines and hitting it and nothing seems to be working…?

ohhh i got it. you have to snap the two end points together first, then hit “join pencil lines”, and it fixes the line weight. very good.

That’s it.

Also, the splip works this way: in a curve, select or create a new point with the contour editor (cmd+click in mac) with the point selected, hit “split” and it brakes the curve in two.

I was just skimming through some documention on new version of harmony and there was mention of bezier mesh…if its anything like After Effects has that would be friggn sweet.

i still dont quite get how to use Reposition Drawing button under Advanced Anmiation Tools works…theres mysterious checkboxes and stuff that I have no idea what they do.

thanks for this discussion. i’m updated to harmony 11 and i still can’t seem to find mention of these join/split operations in the online help docs, so this was a very helpful thread to discover.

odd that you have to first do the manual snapping and then do the join op., seems like the join op should auto-snap first and then do the join. would be great if the docs could be updated to reflect these new (now not so new!) tools.

It’s a tool that lets you animate traditionally in place, and to then invert the positioning so that the actual movement is done by the peg to have the interpolation. It’s for a very specific workflow. For cut-out style it is of no use.

I had installed Harmony Advance 12.2 recently, and noticed “the split and join pencil lines” were in the contour editor options, which mentioned in the documentation. But I was unable to see the option available in the tool properties. All I have were marquee/lasso selection, snap/snap and align to contour, show contour editor controls, apply line to color art and smooth. It this correct?

Thank you for this feedback about the documentation. I will send this information to our Documentation Specialist to fix this.

Marie-Eve

Perhaps Marie-Eve was responding to the majority of posts in this thread and did not realize your post addressed something different.

There is nothing in the 12.2 Release Notes indicating any changes made to the Contour Editor.

I am using 12.1.1.

In 12.1.1 those two items are available in the Tool Properties window of the Contour Editor.

Was that your experience as well or did you come to Harmony Premium 12.2 from the start?

Good evening,

Yes indeed my response was more general. It seems that some topics are either confusing or difficult to find. I wanted to let you know that we will fix it.

This was the first time I had installed Harmony Advance 12.2 trial version.
