Hi,
I have downloaded the trial version of Studio 4.5 and have also downloaded the tutorial files and PDF. When I open the lesson 1 project and work my way through it and then try to save my work as a new project, the saving process is interupted with an error: Error while saving the animation set. Unable to access file Painting_Final 2.tbp.new. The saving process will have made a new folder for me (Painting_Final 2) which contains 3 folders (Scene-001, Sound and Templates), but there is no TBP file anywhere in the folders. It also alerts me at the start of the save process that it will convert to studio 4.5. Does this mean I have the wrong tutorial files?? or is this a limitation of the trial version. Your answer will be much appreciated.
Thanks.
Hi,
This should not be a limitation of the trial, it is more of a permission issue you are getting there. Have you actually moved the project outside of the zip file before opening it? Also where exactly are you trying to save the project? If in the path to the project there is any kind of special character you may get some similar error while trying to save. Did you try to save directly on your C: drive?
Best regards,
Ugo
i get the same problem with a project i started from scratch. this is what i get
error while saving the animation set
unable to save the image file: snow-1.tga.new
unable to access file snow-1.tga.new
i get this message on and off with different projects
Hi,
This usually means that the location in which you are trying to save does not have full permission access for your account. It may also be related to the fact the path to the file contain special characters that are not properly understood by the software. You might want to try to move that project at the source of your C: driver and try to set it there. Also you might want to check the permissions on the project for it might be that you don’t have the rights to get it saved in that location.
You say you are getting the message in multiple project, can you find some kind of pattern in the project that don’t work so we can provide you better help on this.
Best regards,
Ugo
Hi,
I have now purchased the full version of Studio and still have the same problems. If I am logged into our domain with my user profile, I cannot even save to the local c:\ drive, it comes up with the message unable to access file Global.tbc.new. I also cannot save to my documents folder, which is on the network (my personal domain stores all document on a central server) however the documents folder has full read and write access as I can easily store a new word document in the exact same folder where I want to store the animation. Only when I run ToonBoom locally (i.e. logged in to the local PC) can I store on the C:\ drive, but then I can obviously not store my work in my Domain’s documents folder so there is an issue with the backup. Is it possible that the software simply cannot save properly if I am logged in to the domain ?? Your help is much appreciated.
Thanks
Hi,
Are you only getting the Global.tbc.new issue wherever you save or is the message changing depending on where you save.
The Global file that you get in the error message can actually be set in another location. I think by default it tries to access c:/documents and settings… so if that is rerouted somewhere else due to domain it is possible that it can’t access it through the path that is currently set. You can change the location of the global library by opening the Preferences of the software under the General tab.
This being said be aware that there might be some data saved directly on the C: drive which is hard coded in the software so you might still need to have some limited access to your local machine. If you get other error message after setting the global library elsewhere could you provide the full error you are getting and let us know the path you were trying to save to at the time.
Best regards,
Ugo
Just a little advice. If you are using Vista your problem is one of the two below. Usually Both…
1. Often when downloading files they are left in an odd state of permissions. Right click your file or the folder your files are in and select properties. (You can go down and do this to each file inside but it will take much longer and will cascade down to child folders if you select a parent folder.)
Select the security tab. In the Group or user names box, select each user and make sure they show Full Control in the permissions for SYSTEM box below it. Vista permissions are different than many OS and if you belong to any group that does NOT have Full control to the file you will not have permissions either and will get the errors described above.
Click the Edit button and after clicking on each user or group that do not have full control, click the full control button under allow adding full control to that user. When done with all users, click the Apply button OK button. If you did this on a parent folder you should get a window asking to do to all files in that folder. Click yes/ok and you are done.
2. Use a Toon Boom Shortcut on your desktop to start the program. Right click the shortcut and click properties. Click the Compatibility tab and select Run this program as an administrator.
If you are using Vista the above solutions will work. As one admin did say this is a permisions issue but not quite on the folders on your drive but the actual folders downloaded.
