Can not view imported images

Hi There,
i’m trying your BASIC storyboard 1.5 product as a trial.
Version 8.6.1
NOT STORYBOARD PRO

I have a small issue, hopefully user error …

i can not view imported images on the workspace.
They show up as a named layer, but no viewing.
I also imported into the library, the image shows up in the viewer window but not on the work space.
I have imported PSD,JPEG,TGA all 8bit and RGB … no luck.
I’m running everything from my internal hard drive,
Running on a MacBook Pro OSX 10.7.5 Intel Core 2 Duo
2.53GHz, 4GB Memory, L2 Cache 3MB, Bus Speed 1.07GHz
Graphic card: NVIDIA GeForce 9400M supports OpenGlL 3.3

any thoughts?

chris

Hi cusimano

I am on a mac too. Macbook Pro Intel core 2 duo 2,66 Ghz 4Gb RAM.
It has two graphic cards. One of them happens to be NVIDIA GeForce 9400M 256 MB.
The TB Storyboard 1.5 (not Pro) is version 8.6.1.
I just imported bitmap images into the scene with no problem.

Going to the top menu, -Storyboard -Import Images as Shots.

I also tried to import layers going to the top menu -Layers - Import Images As Layers.
This also worked fine. Images imported was in PSD and jpg.

Image sequence imported fine with right numbering first to last in a row.

If you still don’t succeed, please describe your workflow.

-Ivar

Hi Ivan,
still doesn’t work for me,
here is my work flow …
this shouldn’t be this difficult

Open TB Storboard
Create NTSC 720x540 24fps project

Open Photoshop CS5
Create new image
720x540
resolution 72
color mode: RGB
8 bit
color profile: sRGB IEC61966-2.1
square pixels

draw something
save as … PSD

TB-SB
Storyboard>import images as shots>select image>open
Dialog box: image file invalid format.

I’ve tried 8bit, jpeg, tga, psd, png …
None work
What gives?
If I’m reading the TBSB documentation right…
. “With Toon Boom Storyboard, you can import a variety of bitmap formats (SGI, TGA, YUV, PSD, PNG, JPG, JPE or JPEG) which you can combine with your vector-animated content to create rich and unique graphic styles. You can import a single image (or multiple images located in the same folder) into a new layer. NOTE Toon Boom Storyboard does not support import of 8-bit CMYK or 16-bit RGB or CMYK format PSD files. You can currently import only 8-bit RGBA format PSD files.

. This should work fine.
. I’ve tried importing them as shots, layers and into the library ?
still nothing…

whats the user error here ?

thanks for your help

Hi again

I can’t spot any problem. Except the actual fact that the images are not showing.

Just to make sure. Using odd characters and signs in titles and names can cause problems.

So english letters only in filenames/layers for import/export can save a lot of troubble.

You should also try to zoom way out, just to make sure the imported image is not present outside the visible area.

When it comes to NTSC and preparing for import of square pixel artwork I am totaly blank. We don’t use NTSC in Norway. But here is a link on Creative Cow forum:
http://forums.creativecow.net/thread/2/901359
The discussion is import to AE , but the square to rectangel pixel problem is probably similar.

Hopefully somebody more competent on the matter will enter this thread and help you out if the problem should be related to that?

Best regards
Ivar

I would recommend that you contact support to have a look on your system.

I would avoid using color profiles because they are not used in Storyboard. For images, RGB(A) files are best (8bits per channel). Try it with a flattened image for simplicity.

I notice that the graphic card is the weak point of your system but I would expect that you should be able to load at least some images.
