All tools switch back to eraser tool

I have had this reoccuring problem for weeks and now its permanent. I cannot use any other tool but the eraser tool. It doesnt matter what shortcut i use or if i select any other tool. It will always default back to the eraser tool. How can i fix this? I havent changed the settings so i dont know what could be causing this

Seems that you have some interfering with your preferences. Can you do the following test;

  1. Create a new user on your machine
  2. Give the user admin rights
  3. Try to duplicate the issue

If is not recurring, go to your ‘Task Manager’ take a screenshot of all the apps and compere with your other profile and see what is running that shouldn’t.

I’m having the exact same issue. I’m working using Toon Boom Harmony Essentials from a laptop running Windows 10, and I followed your directions, twice. The first time, it didn’t work at all, and the second time, it worked for all of 5 minutes before all of my tools started reverting back to the eraser tool again. I initially started the animation I’m currently working on using the trial version of Toon Boom Essentials, and after purchasing the monthly license just yesterday, I was hoping to continue working on it. I need this for the animation reel I intend to send out to art colleges months from now. Any advice for how I can solve this? As it currently stands, I can’t pan around the canvas, or draw on it at all.

Hi,

Can you please rename your preferences but do that while the software is close. I don’t know if you’re using Harmony or StoryBoard but the location is the same

Windows:
Toon Boom HarmonyPremium: C:\Users[user_name]\AppData\Roaming\Toon Boom Animation\Toon Boom Harmony Premium \full-1400-pref
Toon Boom HarmonyAdvanced: C:\Users[user_name]\AppData\Roaming\Toon Boom Animation\Toon Boom Harmony Advanced\full-1400-pref
Toon Boom HarmonyEssentials: C:\Users[\user_name]\AppData\Roaming\Toon Boom Animation\Toon Boom Harmony Essentials\full-1400-pref
Mac OS X:
Toon Boom Harmony Premium: /Users/[user_name]/Library/Preferences/Toon Boom Animation/Toon Boom Harmony Premium/full-1400-pref
Toon Boom Harmony Advanced: /Users/[user_name]/Library/Preferences/Toon Boom Animation/Toon Boom Harmony Advanced/full-1400-pref
Toon Boom Harmony Essentials: /Users/[user_name]/Library/Preferences/Toon Boom Animation/Toon Boom Harmony Essentials/full-1400-pref

Rename the file preferences full-1400-pref_bak and start the software again see if the issue is recurring.

I am having this exact problem, I tried to do this but I dont understand what you are trying to say with “Toon Boom HarmonyPremium: C:\Users[user_name]\AppData\Roaming\Toon Boom Animation\Toon Boom Harmony Premium \full-1400-pref”
All I have is this “full-2000-pref” what should I rename? I really need the program and already paid for it again, restarted my laptop several times too and installed different versions of the program. Is there a way to solve this?
