Advanced character template

what is the proper setup for an advanced character? For example;
a character that has at least 3 angles (front, 3/4 and profile) that can lipsync on all three angles and can have multiple expressions on each angle. Are these versions of the character best setup as separate templates or rolled into one master symbol. There is no way to target lipsync inside a symbol (correct?)
so lips can never be in a symbol. Do you guys have a scene I can look at that might have a character like this. I’m coming from a 3D background and trying
to get a handle on the correct workflow. Every tutorial I’ve seen so far on character setup doesn’t go deep enough.
